Actually, the only way you couldn't do that loop is if you lacked speed. With enough speed, you personal momentum will keep you going, and that's only if you keep going at that speed you started with upon hitting the loop or go faster. Otherwise, you're going to drop like a rock the moment you hit the apex.

The corkscrew paths that face outward found in the Sonic games, though, would be impossible to navigate the way Sonic and co do.
